Would you like to learn about brewing and distillation at Wettre Bryggeri? Guided tour taking you into the production facility. Opportunity for beer and/or spirits tasting. The tour and tasting are easy to combine and will provide you with a great experience. If the weather is nice, tasting can be done outdoors. Holmsbu Artist Church

Approximately 45 minutes by car from Wettre Brewery

Experience the artist church and learn about how the artists discovered Holmsbu – and about one of the world's largest artist colonies, which was located here from 1911 to 1961, most of the time under the leadership of Henrik Sørensen. The artists developed a close relationship with the people in the small fishing community, and 15 of them contributed to decorating the church, which the residents themselves had built through voluntary work. Ramme also has a connection to Edvard Munch, as he lived here for several years and painted many vitalistic paintings from the area, and you can join an art walk down to his house. Experience the figureheads in Hvitsten

Approximately 5 minutes by car from Ramme

Take a short drive from Ramme and make a stop in Hvitsten. The place grew in the 19th century because shipowners had winter storage here, and crew and officers settled in the area. It was here that the shipping empire Fred. Olsen started. Fred Olsen Lines has placed out 37 figureheads made by famous Norwegian contemporary artists, used on the company's ships in the period 1938 – 1976.

 

Gallery F-15 Moss

Take the route via Son to Moss and Gallery F-15. The gallery is a leading art center and disseminator of contemporary art in Norway and the Nordic region, located in a historic manor landscape at Alby farm in Moss. The uniqueness of the gallery lies in the combination of art, historical architecture, nature, and recreation. On Sundays, admission is free for everyone, and there are guided tours available. Gamlebyen is one of Northern Europe's best-preserved fortified towns, located at the mouth of the Glomma River in Fredrikstad. It consists of buildings from the 1700s and fortifications with ramparts, moats, and gates from the 1600s. The Old Town is a vibrant city with about 400 inhabitants, exciting shops, museums, galleries, restaurants, and cafes. The activity ends with dinner at Majoren, VÆRK, or Café Magenta. Borgarsyssel Museum

Approximately 20 minutes by car from the Old Town Fredrikstad

Borgarsyssel Museum is located in the heart of the old medieval town Borg, founded by King Olav the Holy (Saint Olav) in 1016. The museum documents and conveys cultural history from all of Østfold from the Middle Ages to the present day. Borgarsyssel Museum has county-wide collections and is an open-air museum with around 20 antiquarian buildings.

 

Soli Brug – art

Approximately 15 minutes by car from Borgarsyssel

Since 1978, Soli Brug has evolved into an important place for art. Today, Soli Brug appears as a courtyard with 8 preserved houses and sawmill ruins by Ågårdselva. In historical surroundings, visitors can experience art in four houses and visit the restaurant by the dam. On the courtyard, there are also homes for the family, a framing workshop, and a studio. Free admission, guided tours on request.

 

Return to Oslo
