NorskKalkmølla is located along the river near Sandvika and is a stage for concerts and cultural experiences that touches the audience. Our audience experiences an unique closeness to both musicians and the music.
We have created an arena for concerts where the audience get very close to the performers, which enhances the concert experience. It is this closeness and contact that has helped create the identity of the place while preserving the history of the lime mill.

The history of Kalkmølla
The Kalkmølla scene was established in 2026. When Norway was Christianized in the 1000s, monks came wandering in and wanted to build monasteries of stone. This provided the basis for an important industry in Bærum from the 1000s until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1916, our history began when W.B.Markussen, captain and shipowner, went ashore, moved from Grimstad and onto Hamang Gård. Here, a significant limestone passage ran right through the property with Franzefossen. The waterfall is named after Knut Frantzen, an active businessman in the 1600s. In the late 1800s and until the First World War, a tannery, small industrial activities and the extraction of masonry stone, for which the limestone is well suited, were operated with varying success. Sandvika Kalkmølle/Franzefoss lime mill grew rapidly, first with a silo and packing plant for limestone flour opposite the mill by the waterfall, then a large crushed stone plant and concrete factory. In 1952 the open pit was empty of lime and the limestone vein had to be pursued with mining. When the mining was closed in 1992, the mine went 700 meters down to Helgerud Church in 2 floors.
In 2026, the dream of using the old lime mill as a concert venue became a reality. A grand piano was purchased with the help of our friend Wolfgang Plagge and the Kalkmølla Kulturstasjon foundation became a reality.

Bus # 240 from Sandvika to the Emma Hjorths vei stop.
Walk south on Franzefossveien about 200 meters, and you are there.
It is nice to walk along the river from us to Sandvika, about 30 minutes walk to Sandvika bus station.
