Discover a Vibrant Art Scene Just Outside Oslo

Let yourself be inspired by a living and diverse art scene just outside Oslo, where galleries, sculpture parks and creative meeting places are waiting to be discovered. Here, you’ll find everything from small, intimate galleries to larger art centre, often with free admission and a low threshold for spontaneous visits.

One of the first artworks you encounter after leaving the airport is Keplerstjernen (The Kepler Star), also known as Fredstjernen (The Peace Star). This monumental art installation rises 45 metres above the landscape along the E6, not far from Oslo Airport. Created by artist Vebjørn Sand, the sculpture is visible to everyone passing by and has gradually become a well‑known landmark for travellers arriving at or departing from Norway’s main airport.

Nearby, at Nordbytjernet, you’ll find Broken Thrones, a sculptural work by artist Camilla Løw. The piece combines European 19th‑century pavilion forms with modern materials. The artist encourages visitors to feel a sense of ownership and to use and experience the sculpture in their own way, making it a dynamic and inclusive part of the landscape.

In the centre of Jessheim, several street art works await. The most well‑known mural was created by Eric Ness Christiansen in collaboration with Martin Whatson, located close to the railway station. On the exterior wall of Quality Airport Hotel Gardermoen, you’ll also find a striking large‑scale mura, a collaborative project by artist Simon Alfredo, Nordic Choice Hotels and KLP Eiendom.

The Sculpture Trail at Wergelandshaugen offers another engaging art experience, featuring a varied collection of outdoor artworks displayed throughout the garden setting which is perfect for a leisurely walk surrounded by creativity.

If you’re travelling through the region, you can combine art experiences with a relaxing overnight stay at Hurdalsjøen Hotel & Spa, where the hotel garden features artworks set against panoramic views of Lake Hurdal.

At Nes Samlinger and the fairytale‑inspired Eventyrskolen / Stein School, you’ll discover a small universe of Norwegian cultural history. Stein School is a colourful and sensory‑rich experience for visitors of all ages, offering close encounters with unique works by renowned artists such as Reidar Aulie, Dagfin Werenskiold and Henrik Sørensen.

Many of the smaller towns around Gardermoen also offer engaging outdoor art experiences and galleries – including the historic blue‑sign art markers found throughout Jessheim town centre, inviting visitors to explore art as part of everyday urban life.
