Oscarsborg, the Fortress Island
If you are going to Drøbak, grab the opportunity to visit the historical fortress on the...
Situated by the fjord 30 minutes south of Oslo, pittoresque and charming Drobak welcomes you to enjoy easy living and lower your pulse.
The city that was built on ice and timber export has kept its historic oldtown Gamle Drobak, with buildings like the wooden church and neatly preserved white fisherman´s houses, some built 150-200 years ago.
Drobak is ideal for a stroll and while enjoying the scenery and the sea breeze you will find quite a number of art galleries, high quality speciality shops, small and cosy cafés and restaurants, the boat harbour and beaches.
The fact that Santa actually lives in Drobak is well documented as we have the all year open Tregaardens Julehus (House of Christmas) and Santa´s own post office. If you get lucky you may even spot him in the streets, but please note that he is not wearing his work outfit at all times.
The name Drobak translates «quite hilly» as will be experienced when you seek for new adventures outside Gamle Drobak. It may be well worth the small effort as you will reach Bolgen Bad leisure & fitness centre, ideal for swimming and water fun activities, and the Skate Park in less than ten minutes walk.
You are welcome to try the Norwegian national activity «gå tur» which means a low tempo walk in the forest for no other reason than enjoying the peacefullness of nature. If you are up for a game of golf, test your skills at our friendly 18 hole course or book a lesson with Jim, the Headpro that helped develop PGA Tour sensation Viktor Hovlands game during his teenage years.
Quite nearby you will also find the concert hall Smia Kulturhus, Follo Museum, a shopping centre and a few well kept farms that offer self-produced goods and activities.
A 10 minute boat trip from Drobak harbour takes you out to the island of Oscarsborg with Oscarsborg Fortress, a spa hotel, restaurants and a variety of summer and all year activities.
